DAY 1.
pick up from Zanzibar airport/sea port , you will be met by friendly staff of haika expedition and transfer directly to jambiani village. South east coast of island.
DAY 2. KIZIMKAZI—28 KM
After breakfast you will cheak bikes and cycling from jambiani to kizimkazi.during cycling our guide tell a bout the history of the village, you will visit a tradition herbalist ,who will show the local medicine, herbs and their uses and visit to a local organically plantation on coral stone,where the farmers cultivate under difficult circumstances, and sea weed farms run by women.A good chance to learn a bout the unique culture and divers environment of Zanzibar village and to meet the Swahili people.we will show you real life, not image designed for tourists.we will pass the village of makunduchi.we can stop and try the exotic fruit being sold a long way. Cycling through the coral village up to kizimkazi. Kizimkazi village located on the southern coast of Zanzibar island.where you can see both bottle –noise and humpback dolphins.several bottle-noise dolphins stay at kizimkazi all year-around.there also rather shyer humpback dolphins that put in appearance here, through their schedule is a little more erratic.we can do the trip in the afternoon but the probability to see dolphin is very small, not only that but at this time there might be many boat at the dolphin site,this scare the dolphins which is not good for their sustainability.Dolphin tour is best very early in the morning. Overnight at hotel .
DAY 3. STONE TOWN 43 KM.
After breakfast we cycling off road to stone town via cheju.it may not have a particulary romantic name, but stone town is the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar,little change in the last 200 years. Is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars,mosques and grand arab house whose original owners.vield with each other over the extra vagence of their dwellings.this one –upmanship is particulary reflected in the brass-studded,carved, woodern doors. There more than 500 different example of this hand work.you can spend many idle hours and day just wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrows streets and alleyways.We can have lunch at look man restaurant.
This cycling tour takes you through fabled stone town, where historical appers to stand still.will visit to the house of wonder,the former slave market for east Africa slave trade,and the arab fort amongst others it is a fascinating look.at the essence of Zanzibar.the architectural style of stown town buidings is a unique mixture of various influences and culture. You will see Zanzibar bustling market, winding alley ways arnately carved and studded deorstive.cathedrals and countless mosques.Dinner/at tembo hotel.
DAY 4. PRISON ISLAND BOAT TRIP.
Earning its name as a farmer prison for slave and quarantine station for Zanzibar and mainland,now a days the island gives you the chance to escape from some peace and quiet.The island lies just off the old stone town, it also a home to giant land tortoise that were importated from Seychelles in the late 19th century. now it is more commonly known as home of zanzibar giant aldabran-tortoise colony, some of earch are over hundred years old.this endangered species came to Zanzibar as a gift from the government of the Seychelles. once on the island you have the opportunity to feed and pet the tortoises, if you have time you may also to take a stroll through the forested interior where you will see a wide verity of birds, colourful peacocks, bats, and beautiful butterflies. Keep your eyes peeled too far the shy and elusive duikers-an unsual tiny antelope species.it is fringed which beautiful coral reef, ideal for snorkeling and has a lovely white beach for sunbathing. this tours is a great way to see some history and wildlife, and also to see stone town from the see as many old maritime legends would have done. dinner and overnight at tembo hotel or smillar hotel.
DAY 5 BUBUBU & SPICE FARMS. 29 KM
After breakfast we cycling to spice farm.the history of Zanzibar would be incomplete without the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon , pepper and many other spices which are essential ingredient in a Zanzibar everyday life, it is the islands connection to spices and herbs.zanzibar and spice is a romantic entanglement that dates back to the 16th century. A part from being an important commodity on the trade route.They can be seen in the plantations just outside Zanzibar town,this is also a fantantic opportunity to see the countryside and rural areas of Zanzibar and also connect with local people.You will be decorated with palm- leaf accessories such as ties, rings, bracelets and glasses. At the spice farms you will have opportunity to taste same of the exotics fruits of Zanzibar. After the tour we invite you for an opulent traditional Swahili lunch served in a local house hare you will get a really taste of the spices in the food. The tour includes visit the kidichi persion baths. Built in 1850 by the first sultan of Zanzibar as gift for his persion wife. At the spice farm is the place to buy fresh spices directy from the sources.Then cycling to bububu { 7 km } for dinner and overnight at furaha lodge.The sunset can be watched on the bar with enjoy a safari beer.
DAY 6 . NUNGWI 53 KM.
Early morning cycling to the northern of island village called nungwi via mkokotoni is small fish village where local take the boat to tumbatu. Where you will find fruits and fishmarkets. Nungwi is the most exploited place on the island.You have village to explore just behind the sea, hear is amazing and with no tide to talk about you can swimming from the shore 24/7.Afternoon dinner and overnight at kendwa rocks/or smilar hotel.
DAY 7. NUNGWI CULTURAL VILLAGE TOUR . 5 HOURS
Nungwi is the name of the village at the northern part of Zanzibar island.this part of cycling trip mainly focuses on cultural village visit on the nungwi,sight seeing and free time to relax at the white sand beach on the north.at nungwi there are number of very interesting thing to see, include the natural aquarium in which is a home endangered sea turtles and a variety of fish. The aquarim itself is a natural formation carved out from the coral bedrock by the erosion of millions of waves crashing against shore.the depth of the water rises and falls with tides providing a natural environment for its inhabitats .While watching the white sails of the dhows go by you might wonder how these impressive boats are made .the nungwi boat yard is a riveting { If you will pardon the pun }experience where youll meet the ship yard owner and learn how the dhow are built, from the sourcing of the wood to the joint used and how they are launched. please note that the boat building tour is only available as part of the nungwi village tours. also be aware that the village is the home and working place for the local population and we ask you to respect their privacy-it is always best to ask before take picture.at the end of cycling you can either relax on the sand beaches or go swimming in the natural sea. Lunch and refreshment are arranged there to taste. local delicious or international food will be served. overnight at double tree/or similar hotel
DAY 8. CYCLING TO PONGWE. 39 KM.
Early morning depature to pongwe we will pass through the matemwe village and kiwengwa/pongwe forest rich both in fauna and froral species, if we luck we can spot red colobus monkeys,small antelope and several speciesof snake.47 birds species and many plantational, include medicine plants. you will visit sugar cane farm and pass beautiful rice fields .santa maria is a favourite location and quite atmosphere.lunch and dinner at santa maria lodge.
DAY 9.Today we follow the coast line to chwaka {13KM}.We catch a wood dhow and pack bike and cross chwaka bay .then we follow the coastline to jambiani .special dinner to celebrate having cycle around Zanzibar.we overnight at sau inn /or similar lodge.
DAY 10. JOZANI FOREST
Today is our last day of stay in the island .After finish breakfast we going to jozani forest.the forest is one of the last remaining sanctuaries in the world of the red colubus monkey.the forest is 2512 hectares {6207 acres}in size and was declared a nature reserve in the 1960.Wonderful photo opportunities and sightings of these rare creatures living in the forest reserve,are possible on the pathways.our guide are also naturalists and natural lovers will have a wonderful time in the nature reserve.they were an endangered species but number have increased in recentyears.thanks to conservation work by the nature reserve working closely with local people.it is estimated that there now between 2000-2500 monkeys.the monkeys are wild,but it is possible to get close to them and they carry on their normal activities as though human visitors do not exist.The elusive Zanzibar leopard{ last sited several years ago}is said to feed here at night-perhaps this is why the reserve is only open during the day?the jozani has an excellent nature trail and the guide are well trained and informative. A walk through this impressive flora and fauna is one of the highlights. zanzibar has to offer.At jozani you will also visit the mangrove swamp and walk around the mangrove forest. this half day trip include the lunch on the way to town.after lunch we will drop to the airport.
